Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional correspondent. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell went on numerous trips together with President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
